Today I thought I would show you something that I picked up recently. Years ago I bought a Cosco red stepstool like this one. I only paid a dollar for it! It has a few paint splatters but nothing too bad. My sister has tried her best to get me to give it to her. I just couldn't do that!! So I have kept my eye out for one for her. While in my little Mayberry hometown, I ran across this one at the antique shop there. It was nice and also a great price! After talking to the guy who has the shop, I found out that it came from an estate of a long time resident of the town. Well, I just can't let this one go, so I am giving my sister the one she has been asking for all these years! This one is alittle nicer except the seat is badly stained. The tread on the steps and the chrome are in excellent shape. I guess I can live with the seat!
These canisters are a recent Ebay find. I first saw one on Carissa's blog "Stella's Apron Strings". I thought it was so cute, plus I have a thing for red checks. I have kept my eyes open for a canister, but I found a set! I almost passed on them because they were badly stained. I didn't know if I would be able to clean them up. But I decided to take a chance. Besides, if I couldn't, at least the small one was decent. The canisters arrived and I was so ready to start in on them, but I have a WW meeting and then had to get back to fix dinner. After dinner, Wichita was under a tornado warning. My girls live in Wichita and one was in downtown Wichita at the River Fest. I sat down with the phone next to me and my eye on the tv. Thanks to the Good Lord, my daughter ran into a friend from work who happened to live close by. They went to his families basement! Not much became of the tornado. There was one, but it was short lived. Anyway, I spent the evening cleaning up the canisters. I was so excited because they did clean up nicely!! I am so happy I didn't pass them up.
See how great they look! This weekend is my garage sale. Oh my. Why did I decide to do this? It's been alot of work. It will feel good to have things out of my garage. But I have a hard time letting go of vintage things! I have to keep telling myself, I can't keep it all! It's just material things. If I am not using it or enjoying it, I need to let it go and let someone else enjoy it!
Have a Happy REDnesday!

Mecky those tins are darling. Never have seen the bows. Did you try to lightly use the magic eraser on the stool. It will take some of the color so you do have to be careful but sometimes it will lift the stain if it is sitting on the top. Or a cute little red gingham seat cushion with bows to tie on the back...did that for a friend and it turned out darling. Slipped a little of that drawer non slide under the cushion to keep it in place...wonderful post...good luck with the garage sale...smiles...Renee
I'd say the canisters were a bargain!
DAWN TO DUSK
Yellow’s the color I wear at dawn
When dancing dewdrops spangle the lawn.
Red is the color I wear at dusk
When earth and sky are dry as a husk
And nothing stirs—not even a wing
Of bat or swallow or anything!

Love the canisters, and boy did they clean up nicely. I have a step stool like that. Only, mine is a Target reproduction. Always loved the oldies. Couldn't find one, so settled for Target. Thanks so much for visiting my blog. I am a new follower.
Yippie... I'm so happy for you that you found some! My Mama had two of them and she gave one to me. Are they not the cutest!!! We are now kindred spirits in yet one more way! :-)
LOVE the step stool!!! Vintage at that and from your area... got love it! My Mama has one from Target, I always drool over it every time I'm at her house. I could easily live with the stains... It just makes me think about how it was used in the past.
Happy for you!! Glad your daughter was ok!!!
Love Carissa
I love all of your reds, especially the stool!
Would love to find one!
Blessings,
Janet
Such sweet canisters - I can see why you would want to hold onto them.
YOu have the most adorable cannisters!!! Do you fill them all with goodies or just display them??? I'm loving the aprons too, which you didn't even mention...gasp!!!
Love the stool story! My grandma had one like that, but white, in her kitchen. I think it's still in her basement. Maybe it will live with me someday!!
Glad everyone's okay...scary where you live!!
I found a set of those canisters at a garage sale last week, but their not in as good condition as yours are! I've always wanted one of those stepstools, but I have absolutely no room for one. Can't wait to here all about your garage sale!
Those canisters are adorable! Love your blog!
Mecky, Just had to say, that I have that red stool. It was my Grandmothers. Also have the kitchen scale, only mine is RED. I have had it since I got married, bought new. My kitchen is yellow and red, so I really enjoy seeing your red items.
Cute canisters! We had a yellow stepstool in our kitchen when I was growing-up. I am always on the hunt to find one in good shape. Take care~
